The IEA appoints new Media Fellow
The IEA is today delighted to announce the appointment of a new Media Fellow, Jeffrey Peel, who will be based in Northern Ireland.
Jeffrey Peel is a regular free-market commentator and participant on many current affairs programmes in Northern Ireland and on national media. He’s also a regular blogger and has written for Conservative Home, Slugger O’Toole and many others. He’s a former Area Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party in Northern Ireland and was also a Conservative Councillor on Dacorum Borough Council in Herfordshire – although he’s no longer involved in Party politics. Jeff has run his own consulting business since 2002 and is considered a specialist in terms of digital policy related issues. His clients have included some of the most dynamic and market defining technology clients in the UK and Silicon Valley. Jeff graduated in Economics from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1984. Commenting on his appointment, Jeffrey Peel said:
“I’m delighted to become a Fellow of the Institute of Economic Affairs – one of the oldest and most revered free market think tanks in the United Kingdom. I believe that free markets – free from the influence of vested interests or government – are the route to economic success. I look forward to playing my part in spreading the message to Northern Ireland and beyond that intellectual freedom, freedom from unnecessary regulation and meddling, and freedom from nanny-state interference, are the pillars of healthy democracy. I think it’s important that these arguments are made in the devolved regions as well as in Westminster.”
Commenting on the appointment, Mark Littlewood, Director General at the Institute of Economic Affairs, said:
