As far as welfare is concerned, you need to pay in before you can take out
Commenting on David Cameron’s speech on immigration, Mark Littlewood, Director General at the Institute of Economic Affairs said:
“The Prime Minister is in danger of using a sledgehammer to fail to crack a nut. Genuine jobseekers should be welcomed from across the world. Those wishing simply to be welfare recipients should not.
“But trying to monitor and police exactly where children are located before paying child benefit is a recipe for bureaucracy. We should simply enshrine the principle that, as far as welfare is concerned, you need to pay in before you can take out”
