We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.
“How to Really Stop People Smoking” will investigate what works and what policy measures are desirable to eliminate the health risks of smoking. The seminar will take place in the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland on Tuesday, October 23 at 7pm.

A panel of speakers from the USA, Germany, UK and Ireland will draw on international evidence to make the case for regulation, education or harm-reduction as the best way to stop people smoking. The event will be hosted by Ivan Yates, a co-host on Newstalk Breakfast and a former Irish Government Minister.

This will be the first event that the IEA has hosted in Ireland and we are keen to ensure that it should be the first of many.

Speakers:

  • Christopher Snowdon, author, journalist and researcher who focuses on lifestyle freedoms, prohibition and dodgy statistics. He is the Director of Lifestyle Economics at the Institute of Economic Affairs

  • Dr Axel Klein, social anthropologist at the University of Kent with a particular interest in the role played by drugs in different cultural and social settings, as well as the regulative and political framework

  • Senator John Crown, Professor and consultant medical oncologist at St. Vincent’s University Hospital. John founded the Clinical Trials Unit at St. Vincent’s University Hospital which has developed an international leadership role in oncology trials

  • Jeff Stier, Senior Fellow at the National Center for Public Policy Research in Washington, D.C., and heads its Risk Analysis Division
