Len Shackleton quoted in The Telegraph

IEA Editorial and Research Fellow Prof Len Shackleton has been quoted in The Daily Telegraph responding to new findings that GPs received a pay rise (22%) worth almost double that recommended by the Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (13%) between 2016 and 2022.

Len said:

“GPs are currently providing a poor but expensive service and the Government should not allow itself to be blackmailed into paying significantly more without seeing real improvements.

“More generally, in many countries medical personnel are not allowed to strike. We may well wonder why police officers, facing danger and difficult working conditions on a regular basis, as we’ve seen again this week, cannot strike while doctors can.”
