“As well as being widely hated, inheritance tax is an inefficient source of revenue, introducing big deadweight costs and behavioural distortions into the tax system. In straightforward terms: a lot of time, money, and effort is wasted on trying to plan around complex IHT rules.
“In an ideal world, it would definitely be scrapped, as part of a wider reform of taxes on property, savings, and investment.”
