Julian Jessop quoted in The Times
IEA Economics Fellow Julian Jessop has been quoted in The Times responding to news that the UK has exited recession and grown by 0.6% in the first quarter of 2024.
The article said:
“Julian Jessop, economics fellow at the Institute for Economic Affairs, said the 0.6 per cent economic expansion was still ‘little to get excited about’.
“‘The figures were flattered by a big boost from net trade, as imports fell by more than exports, and by the favourable comparison with the weak figures in the second half of last year,’ Jessop said. ‘Consumer spending only grew by 0.2 per cent. GDP per capita rose by 0.4 per cent but remains 0.7 per cent lower than a year earlier’.”
