The IEA Book Club will be hosting an upcoming event with Lord Clement-Jones on his latest book, “Living with the Algorithm: Servant or Master?: AI Governance and Policy for the Future”. This event will take place on Thursday 23rd May from 17:30 –19:30 at the IEA Westminster offices. Chairing this event is Lord Kamall.

AI has taken centre stage in public affairs, and it is here to stay. Technological progress is as important to our everyday lives as it appears to be threatening to societal values and rules. Whether the topic of conversation is individual privacy and data protection rights, increased efficiency through accelerated processing of information, or the (re-)creation of art by technological instruments – AI has changed virtually all processes and structures of human society.

This book addresses the concerns as well as hopes of people regarding the impact of AI on political, economic, and societal spheres by considering the questions of who and how governance and policy need to or should respond to the ever-evolving world of technological progress taking into account the ethics of AI.

Lord Clement-Jones is a Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords. As the former Chair of the House of Lords Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence, he has been instrumental in legislative discussions on AI and technology. His work extends to advocacy for ethical governance and the responsible use of AI. Lord Clement-Jones is a founding member of the OECD Parliamentary Group on AI and a former consultant to the Council of Europe’s Adhoc Committee on AI (CAHAI).
