IEA Director of Public Policy and Communications Matthew Lesh has written for CapX, warning that the government’s proposed Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Bill (DMCC) risks giving too much power to regulators with too little accountability.

Matthew wrote:

“This may sound technocratic. It’s easy to imagine eyes glossing over the finer details of competition policy. But this debate is fundamental: will Britain be governed by a quangocracy or accountable rulemaking?

“The government is on the cusp of creating an entirely novel and expansive set of powers and giving the regulator extensive discretion without directly scrutinising its decisions.”
