Ethical Misconduct and the Global Financial Crisis

On both sides of the Atlantic, greed and the financial services industry have been blamed for what is dramatically called the ‘Global Financial Crisis’. The genuinely unethical conduct underlying it was actually more fundamental, more pervasive, and much more pernicious.

Dr Elaine Sternberg is author of Just Business: Business Ethics in Action, a Research Fellow of the Centre for Business and Professional Ethics, University of Leeds, and currently a visiting professor at the University of Miami. She is also IEA’s Philosophy and Corporate Governance Fellow and a member of IEA’s Academic Advisory Council. Dr Sternberg has lectured on business ethics at the London Business School and is an alumnus of the London School of Economics. She has been an investment banker for fourteen years in London, New York and Paris, and founded and ran two multi-million-pound profitable businesses.
