Gary Stanley Becker is an American economist who has won many notable prizes. He received his Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 1992. He was a professor of sociology and economics at the University of Chicago and is considered to have been one of the leaders of the Chicago School of Economics. He combined the fields of sociology in economics in ways that no one prior to him had, arguing that many types of human behaviour can be seen as rational and utility-maxing. He received the Nobel prize in 1992 “for his development of the contractual and constitutional bases for the theory of economic and political decision-making.”
