Mark Littlewood, IEA Director General, has written his column in The Times about the economic case for opening our borders to Ukrainians fleeing Russian invasion.
Mark argues that, in addition to the humanitarian obligation for a liberal immigration strategy, that allowing Ukrainian refugees ease of access to the UK could provide a much-needed boost to our labour force.
“A qualified driver on the underground in Kyiv has been earning £7,000 a year, about 10 per cent below the prevailing national average in Ukraine. One imagines that many of them would leap at the chance to transfer their skills to the London Tube network. This might be bad news for the small number of militant and affluent RMT members, but it would be good news for millions of others.”
