If leadership is his aim, Rishi Sunak must demonstrate his low-tax values

Annabel Denham, IEA Director of Communications, has written her column for The Spectator on Rishi Sunak’s Chancellorship. Annabel analyses what has been good, bad and ugly during his time as Chancellor.

Sunak, due to the Covid pandemic, has presided over a period of extreme government spending, and Annabel argues that it is now time for him to demonstrate that he is truly a low-tax conservative. This, according to Annabel, is crucial if he is to become a serious leadership contender.

“Since world war two, three former Conservative chancellors have made it to Number 10. If Rishi is to be the fourth…He needs to stop identifying as a low-tax Tory and become one.”
