Annabel Denham, the IEA’s Director of Communications, has penned an article for CapX on Stella Creasy MP’s order to refrain from bringing her child when she sits in Parliament.
Annabel argues that, in spite of the PR consequences of such a rule, not only does it make practical sense for children to be prohibited from sitting in the House of Commons, but also that MPs are entitled to privileges that make childcare easier than in many professions.
“A full-time nursery place for a child under three costs around £13,500 in the UK today – more than some private schools…On a salary three times that of the national average, Creasy can quite clearly afford childcare. She’s just choosing not to.”
