Mark Littlewood writes for The Times

Mark Littlewood, Director-General of the IEA, has written his fortnightly column for The Times on the regulation of tech companies. This follows a court appeal which ruled that Google’s practice of promoting their shopping platform when users use the search engine, is “anti-competitive” and concentrates too much power in the hands of tech giants.

Mark posits that strong regulations in the digital market will not be as effective in dispersing the market share as encouraging competition.

“The risk of overestimation is in believing that well-intentioned regulations can bring about their desired results without serious unintended consequences. On occasions, these consequences can strengthen incumbents rather than insurgents.”
