The IEA responds to Labour's pre-budget speech
Responding to today’s speech by Ed Miliband and Ed Balls on the economy, Mark Littlewood, Director General of the Institute of Economic Affairs, said:
“It’s time for Labour to realise they cannot keep attacking those who create the wealth to pay for our hospitals, schools and police. If Ed Balls and Ed Miliband want to be taken seriously, they should focus on setting out a comprehensive plan for cutting spending much further. Letting business create more jobs, not proposing more taxes, is the key to closing the deficit and funding public services.
“Getting Britain’s economy growing requires a radical budget with more cuts and tax reductions, not one that penalises those who already pay their fair share. Ahead of the budget Labour should focus on how to encourage entrepreneurship and business, and control public spending.”
