The cost of extending Covid restrictions

In an op-ed for the The Spectator, IEA Director of Communications Annabel Denham lambasted the governments decision to delay ‘freedom day’ by at least four weeks.

Annabel argued that the data does not support the need for further restrictions and decision makers have failed to conduct a cost-benefit analysis of the delay, arguing thousands of businesses are at risk of going bust because of the rule of 6 and other restrictions.

Annabel said: “ In the dull lacuna between now and freedom day we should continue to question whether controlling the pandemic is more vital than the economic and liberty-related consequences of continued lockdown-ism. And we should never forget that every delay comes with a cost“.
