In her bi-weekly column for Conservative Home, IEA Head of Media Emily Carver highlighted the disproportionate effects lockdown has had on the education of children of lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Emily argued that “far from being a leveller, the pandemic has, inevitably, impacted disproportionately the education of the already disadvantaged”.  Citing a new paper by the Institute of Economic Affairs,  Emily argued that now is the right time to address systemic failures in the education system

Although there are immediate problems to rectify in education, the pandemic has exposed long-term issues that require action now such as adapting teaching practices, changing the length of the school day and giving parents more power over their children’s education.
