At first sight, it may seem as if Culture War issues have come to dominate economic issues, but that would be a “fundamental misunderstanding”, writes the IEA’s Head of Political Economy Dr Kristian Niemietz.

In an article for Reaction, Kristian argues that for all intents and purposes, “wokeness” is a subset of anti-capitalism, which we can see  in the obsession with the colonial era. However, as Kristian points out “one cannot sensibly use the empire as a stick to beat capitalism with” – it was a costly prestige project that governments pursued for non-economic reasons.
