The Government may have appointed a panel to review the future of public service broadcasting, but we can be sure they will “recommend the status quo”, writes the IEA’s Senior Academic Fellow Professor Philip Booth.
In an article for CapX, Philip argues that as in the past there was no need for a “public service publishing” to ensure that great writing was produced, there is now “no need for public service broadcasting to ensure that great content is produced”.
The days of “public service broadcasting” being a government policy objective in and of itself must come to an end, together with all the regulatory infrastructure which it supports.
