Lockdown Limbo: When will it end?

As we march slowly towards a second national lockdown, Julian Jessop and Sam Bowman explore and discuss the tightening of restrictions and their impact on the UK economy.

Are local restrictions doing enough to stem Covid’s spread? Can businesses, not least those in hospitality, withstand another lockdown? And is it helpful to frame this debate in “trade-off” terms, or does a successful economic strategy depend on our suppressing the virus?

Sam Bowman is Director of Competition Policy at the International Centre for Law and Economics and Senior Fellow at the Adam Smith Institute.
Julian Jessop is Economics Fellow at the Institute of Economic Affairs.
