Culture minister tells IEA ThinkTent event Channel 4 sell-off could be on the cards

Culture minister John Whittingdale MP, with responsibility for broadcast policy, told a fringe event at the Conservative party conference that Channel 4 was was struggling financially and hinted that a sell-off could be on the cards, reports The Guardian.

Mr Whittingdale made the comments at a ThinkTent event hosted by the Institute of Economic Affairs and the Tax Payers’ Alliance.  At the event, Whittingdale also said that the licence fee, which funds the BBC, will probably survive in its current form for the rest of this decade.
