Due to ongoing concerns around the coronavirus and public gatherings, we have taken the decision to postpone our upcoming panel discussion on Devolution – is federal Britain the way to go?

We will be in contact to all those down to attend with any updates.

Following the UK’s departure from the EU, devolution has returned to the political agenda. The Scottish National party argue Scotland is being taken out of the European Union against its will, Northern Ireland facing divergence from the rest of the UK in order to maintain trade across the border with Ireland. Is devolution the answer? Or could a Federal Britain work?

The Government is expected to release a White Paper on the nature of their devolution plans but despite many people agreeing that the United Kingdom would benefit from further devolution and de-centralisation of powers to local authorities and elected mayors, there is no consensus on how to achieve this.

That is why the IEA is delighted to host a panel discussion on Devolution and Federal Britain.

The panel will examine the arguments for devolution, and what is the best course of action to undertake in order to progress towards a more devolved United Kingdom, before throwing the debate open to questions from the audience.

Register above to ensure your spot at what will be an insightful discussion, including those proposed in the 2016 IEA report ‘Federal Britain’. Alternatively, email events@iea.org.uk

Drinks will be provided.
