“Vaping: Could Brexit be good for our health?”

For most smokers looking to quit the habit, a low-risk alternative to tobacco is a realistic alternative and greatly increases their chances of successfully quitting for good. However, current public health policies encourage abstinence above all, with switching offered only as a second-best choice. Such policies ignore the economics of preference and choice, and make it harder for people to make positive lifestyle choices.

Brexit presents the UK with an unprecedented opportunity to rethink the current regulations surrounding e-cigarettes. How can the Government take advantage of this to better public health in the UK?

Speakers:

  • Clive Bates, Director, Counterfactual Consulting Limited

  • Mark Littlewood, Director General, Institute of Economic Affairs (Chair)

  • Christopher Snowdon, Head of Lifestyle Economics, Institute of Economic Affairs
