We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.
The IEA is delighted to invite you to attend an in-conversation event with Britain’s most outspoken and independently minded MP, Douglas Carswell  – further evidenced by Douglas’s recent announcement to quit UKIP and become an independent MP for Clacton.

Mark Littlewood, Director General, will be asking him about:

  • Whether the political establishment really is collapsing

  • Whether the uprising against the establishment in so many Western countries is in any way libertarian, or if it is merely statist, nationalist populism

  • What might replace the prevailing political order – and should classical liberals be optimistic or pessimistic

  • What new alignments and alliances of forces are beginning to emerge in the UK and what this could mean for the party political system

  • We’ll also be discussing Carswell’s new book, Rebel: how to overthrow the emerging oligarchy, which will be for sale on the evening.

Politics has never been more unpredictable, with the rise of radical populist movements across the Western world. Rebel explains how we got here, and where we are heading – by someone who has been at the forefront of the insurgency against politics-as-usual.

The rise of populist movements, argues Carswell, is a reaction against the emergence of a political and economic oligarchy. “Politics” writes Carswell “is a cartel. Like the economy, it is rigged in the interests of a few”.
