Writing in CapX, Julian Jessop argues that the next Chancellor should do away with the planned ‘Digital Services Tax’ and resist proposals from the European Commission for an EU-wide tax on digital turnover.
The planned taxes would do serious damage to the UK tech sector based solely “on dodgy data and shaky economics”. Julian notes that the EU figures which claim to show multi-national digital companies pay less than their so-called fair share of tax are misleading, based on stylised models, not the taxes companies actually pay.
