Dr Kristian Niemietz appears on BBC Radio 4's Simon Evans Goes to Market show
In the interview Kristian talks about the Social Health Insurance systems that are common across the continent are the main and best alternative type of system to the NHS system. These systems provide universal coverage, where the government makes sure everyone is covered so if you can’t afford your health insurance premium, the government will pay it for you. Plus health insurers are not allowed to discriminate against anyone on the basis of health status. In these kind of systems you preserve the good bits of a market system in that you have freedom of choice and competition.
