Central to these are increases in both income and corporation tax, suggestions which pay no attention to the reduced revenues such hikes would produce. The much hoped-for revenue would be redistributed through eye-catching schemes such as blanket gift of £10,000 to 25-year-olds.
The report, fronted by Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, relies on the notion of Intelligent Design, that we can “build the economy we want”. The belief that we can or should plan our vibrant and ever-changing economy is the ultimate expression of hubris.
