Mark Littlewood appears on BBC Radio 2's Jeremy Vine Show

Mark Littlewood, Director General at the Institute of Economic Affairs has appeared on BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine show to discuss the Taylor review’s recommendations on the gig economy.

In the interview Mark argues that lack of cover if you are sick and can’t work isn’t unique to Deliveroo drivers – that’s the case for most people who are self-employed whether they are window cleaners or Uber drivers. We are now seeing a spectrum of employment but the question remains when are you dependent? Supposedly you are someone who scratches a living selling things on eBay, should eBay be underwriting your expenses if you fall ill or pay you holiday pay? If these platforms are forced to give two weeks holiday, they may have to compensate for this by deducting the amount they pay, for example.
