In the interview Julian observes that the concern is that if you employ a young woman of childbearing age, you might lose them for a certain period between 6-12 months. There are however a number of other arguments you could make on the other side, for a start a lot of help is available to companies. For example they get all their statutory maternity leave pay covered. There’s also the point to be considered that blanket discrimination will rule out potentially very good candidates. But things are starting to change and these issues are gradually being exposed.
