Oligopolies, Public Choice and Contestable Markets

Join us for an enlightening seminar exploring the intersection of A Level Economics education and the formation of oligopolies, contestable markets and their relationship with government through the lens of Public Choice Theory. Hosted by the Institute of Economic Affairs and Vinson Centre at the University of Buckingham, this event promises to equip educators with valuable insights and resources for the modern classroom.

This seminar is exclusively for sixth-form teachers of A-Level, IB, and Scottish Highers economics.

Time: 9:45 AM – 3:00 PM (Doors open at 9:30 AM)
Venue: Institute of Economic Affairs, 2 Lord North St, Westminster

The seminar can be attended in-person or online (virtually, using Zoom).

What to Expect
For our winter seminar, attendees will engage with topics including:
– Oligopolies
– Market Contestability and Natural Monopolies
– A virtual experiment putting these ideas into practise

Schedule
– 9:30 AM: Doors open, registration
– 9:45 AM – 3:00 PM: Seminar sessions (including breaks)

– Morning: Pastries, coffee, and tea
– Lunch: Sandwich buffet
